NASA Finds Coldest Place on Earth is Temperature -57°C
NASA managed to find the coldest place on Earth where the temperature can drop to -57 degrees Celsius, an area that can make anyone reluctant to go there.
The coldest place discovered by NASA's Earth Satellite is in the East Antarctic Plateau. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center shared satellite images showing the plateau on Facebook.
"On clear winter nights, temperatures can drop to minus 57 degrees Celsius," wrote NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in a Facebook post.
The temperature in the Antarctic region is lower than the average temperature on Mars, which is farther from the sun. On the Red Planet, the average temperature is -27 degrees Celsius.
In summer, the temperature on Mars reaches 21 degrees Celsius around the Equator. Meanwhile, in winter, the coldest temperature reaches minus 104 degrees Celsius, this occurs in the Polar region.
According to the National Weather Service, these extreme cold temperatures can harm humans. At minus 35 degrees Celsius, for example, humans will experience frostbite in just 2 minutes.
Cold weather can be even more dangerous than heatwaves. In a 2015 study in the journal The Lancet , which analyzed more than 74 million deaths in 384 locations in 13 countries, it was found that cold weather kills 20 times more than hot weather.
Previously, cold temperatures of minus 57 degrees Celsius had also been detected along the ridge between Dome Argus and Dome Fuji, the same place in Antarctica.
The temperature is recorded using satellite sensing, not using a ground-based thermometer. The coldest temperature ever measured on land reached -53 degrees Celsius on July 21, 1983, on the Antarctic Plateau at the Vostok station, which was then operated by the Soviets.
Outside of Antarctica, it can also be very cold. In Alaska, for example, the temperature dropped to -26 degrees Celsius in 1971. Meanwhile, Montana also experienced the lowest temperature, reaching -21 degrees Celsius on January 20, 1954.
In the coming days, the US is predicted to experience the lowest temperature. This extreme weather is likely to move south into Canada. Meanwhile in Indonesia, you don't need to worry because our country is a tropical country. That is, we will not feel extreme cold weather like countries in the Northern Hemisphere.
One more thing, don't imagine how cold the weather is below zero degrees Celsius. If you want to feel the cold air of the Earth, just go to Dieng or other highlands in Indonesia. Trust me, you won't be strong if you don't wear a jacket or body warmers.
